Bring BBQ supplies
12 miles north of Anchorage, 1 mile south of the town of Eagle River. From Glenn Highway, take Hiland Road Exit (Mile 12). Follow park signs onto frontage road to river and campground. After the kiosk, take a left toward the day-use area and park at the end of the road.
Saturday, June 11
Willow Creek, meet at the Shirley Towne Bridge, 10 AM.
Paddle skills, swimming
All skill levels welcome, more-experienced boaters should plan to instruct.
Required gear:
- drysuit (should have latex neck and wrist gaskets, ideally with attached booties)
- PFD, type III or V (rescue vest)
- throw rope (I like the NRS wedge, but others are fine)
- helmet (bike helmet is okay, but you should get a water-specific helmet if you are planning on doing a lot of boating)
We only need a few boats Friday, and any type of boat is fine. Everyone needs a boat Thursday and Saturday.
