Nordic skates are more comfortable, warmer, and forgiving than hockey/figure skates. Skates can be purchased at nordicstaker.com. The design is simple, a steel blade under an aluminum platform. The platforms come pre-drilled with mounting holes for standard NNN and SNS skate ski bindings. NNN boots are more prone to clog up with ice and snow. The old 5-hole Dynafit (TLT Speed) toe pieces fit the platforms if you drill a few holes. You can place the holes such that they don’t damage the stock hole pattern.
Longer blades are better for going faster and smoothing out rough ice. Shorter blades are better for agility and turning. Sounds like Isvidda has the softest steel, then Lundhags, then Zandstra. I assume harder is better. My Isvidda pair is notably dull after just ~30 miles. Nordicskater sells jigs for sharpening, but I’m not familiar with them.
Really some beautiful images and clips Luc. The skate with Roman looked fun as well.
